On the Carpet

On the Carpet

Some people lie down,
Some jump about,
Some kneel up,
Some talk at the back - behind their hands,
Some fiddle with laces,
Some fiddle with Velcro on their shoes
‘Don't do the Velcro orchestra' the teacher says
Teacher says sit still
no one listens at all,
All the class look bored,
Some Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
Some click click click click click click - with their fingers
People blow bubbles with their spit
People pick scabs
Some people stick pencils up their shoes.
Some pick their nose
That's how it's like on my carpet at school
