A VISIT TO THE SEASIDE

I get there by train.
The doors open and everyone rushes out.
A stampede.
My swimsuit on, I run into the sea.
I want to make a sandcastle
Mum says “really good”.
I see the squirty fountains going up and down
like spray from the whale’s blow hole.
Mum says “run through”.
I rush through darting in and out
Avoiding the splashes.
Mum says “we’ll get some chips”.
Finally it’s time to go.
I am miserable.
I try to convince mum to stay.
Mum says “no”.
