TALK: BANIPAL MAGAZINE

Since 1998, Banipal has been stimulating cross-cultural dialogue by showcasing contemporary poetry and prose writers from all over the Arab world in English translations.
Two of its founding editors Margaret Obank and Amjad Nasser focus on significant poems they’ve been particularly proud to publish.

 

 

Amjad Nasser picture

Amjad Nasser was born in 1955 in al-Turra, Jordan, and now lives in London. Since 1976 he has worked as a television and newspaper journalist. He co-founded the Al-Quds Al-Arabi daily newspaper in London, where he has worked as Associate Editor and Arts Editor since 1987. In addition to two travel books, he has published six collections of poetry and his poems have been translated into French, Italian, Spanish and German, with his complete works published in Arabic in 2002. Shepherd of Solitude: Selected Poems (2009) – with translations by Khaled Mattawa – is his first collection in English. more…
