The Twenty-Sixth Aldeburgh Poetry Festival
The 26th Aldeburgh Poetry Festival will take place 7-9 November 2014
Aldeburgh is the UK’s pre-eminent annual celebration of national and international contemporary poetry and the expansion to Snape Maltings in 2012 has attracted ever bigger audiences, with overall attendance between 5,000 and 6,000 in the last two years. At last, more room to welcome more people.
With the programme's trademark mix of well known or international names, lesser-known voices and exceptional newcomers, the Festival presents a fresh line-up every year. Although there are many poets whose work we love (almost 500 have appeared at the Festival to date), Aldeburgh generally avoids inviting poets back, certainly within a ten year period, which means that there are always many discoveries to be made.
The 50+ events comprise readings, workshops, discussions, craft-talks, close-readings, performances and exhibitions - many of them free - the aim being to offer an immersive weekend of words, a chance to experience the very best of today’s poetry from every angle. Entirely typical feedback following the 2013 Festival included the following:
"One of the 'sacred' events of my year since I discovered it 6 years ago"
"Did I enjoy the festival? Did I get from it what I'd expected? Was I inspired? YES! YES! YES!"
